Types of Units

Cottage Homes

Cottage homes are separate structures, detached from the main residence, and often have a yard. They consist of a living, sleeping, bath, and small kitchen area.

Conversion Units

These private apartments are developed from unconditioned space within the envelope of a home such as a garage, attic, or crawlspace. Conversion units consist of a living, sleeping, bath, and food preparation area. They have a private entrance and can either be attached or detached from the main residence.

Carve-Out Units

These small, private apartments are developed within the existing living space of a home. Carve-out units consist of a living, sleeping, bath, and small food preparation area. They have a private entrance and are separate from the main living area. JR Units, formally known as Junior Accessory Dwelling Units, are a special subset of this category.
